The BPRC is an internationally renowned center for coordination and independent evaluation of ophthalmic images obtained in multicenter clinical trials. It has been established in 2005 as an independent unit of the Department of Ophthalmology, Inselspital, University Hospital Bern, Switzerland. The BPRC serves as an independent evaluation centre for diagnostic images of various ocular diseases. The BPRC carries out the coordination and independent evaluation of image material in clinical multicentre studies. The clinical studies focus on new therapeutic options for various pathological retinal diseases. The BPRC is a global partner collaborating worldwide with more than 200 study centres and hospitals where study patients are examined and treated. In these studies patients are examined by state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging devices. (e.g. specialized stereo fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography, optical coherence tomography angiography, wide field imaging). Our work processes are all strictly defined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), which comply with the European Vision Institute Clinical Research Network (EVICR.net) guidelines and the principles of Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP).All images acquired in studies are collected by the BPRC and transferred by the administrative staff into a digital database. Highest data security standards are applied throughout each project – from image acquisition to analysis and long-term storage.
